UPSC Civil Services, SSC, banking and railway recruitment are national examinations. Candidates from Maharashtra face a particular difficulty: most preparation material exists in Hindi or English.
The examination for IAS, IPS, IFS and other central services runs in three stages — Prelims, Mains and interview. Importantly, the Mains can be written in Marathi, and Marathi may be taken as an optional subject. Many candidates do not know this.
SSC CGL, CHSL and MTS; IBPS PO and Clerk; RRB NTPC and Group D fill large numbers of posts every year. The syllabus differs from MPSC's: here speed and accuracy decide the result, because the questions are easier but the time is far shorter.
These can be prepared alongside MPSC, but the emphasis differs. MPSC weights Maharashtra's geography, history and polity; UPSC and SSC weight national topics, international relations and English.
English is the usual obstacle for Marathi-medium candidates. Avoiding it does not work; setting aside a little time daily for reading and vocabulary does.
