District-wise recruitment for police constable, driver constable, bandsman and prison constable posts in the Maharashtra Police, combining a physical test with a written examination.
Maharashtra Police Bharti is the state's largest recruitment by both vacancies and applicants. It is conducted district by district: each Superintendent or Commissioner of Police issues a separate notification and selection is limited to that district.
The physical test comes first and only those who qualify sit the written exam - so physical preparation is as decisive as study.
Constable posts require a 12th pass. Driver Constable additionally requires a valid heavy vehicle licence held for at least a year.
Physical standards: 165 cm height for men (79 cm chest, expanding to 84 cm) and 155 cm for women. SRPF requires 168 cm for men. Scheduled Tribe candidates receive a height relaxation - check the notification.
18-28 years for the Open category and 18-31 for backward classes, calculated as on the date stated in the notification. Ex-servicemen and Home Guard members receive relaxations. The upper limit is lower than most other state exams, so attempts should not be postponed.

Physical test (50 marks): for men, 1600 m run (20), 100 m sprint (15) and 7.26 kg shot put (15); for women, 800 m run (20), 100 m sprint (15) and 4 kg shot put (15).
Written exam (100 marks, 90 minutes): 25 questions each in arithmetic, general knowledge, reasoning and Marathi grammar. No negative marking, so every question should be attempted.
Final merit combines both: 50 + 100 = 150 marks.
Arithmetic: number system, percentages, averages, ratio, profit and loss, interest, time-work-speed, mensuration.
General knowledge: history, geography and culture of Maharashtra and India, the Constitution, general science and current affairs.
Reasoning: series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction, figures, classification.
Marathi grammar: parts of speech, samas, sandhi, alankar, proverbs, synonyms and antonyms.
Police constables are appointed in pay level S-8 (₹21,700 - ₹69,100), with gross pay of roughly ₹35,000-40,000 including allowances, plus quarters or HRA, medical cover and a uniform allowance. Promotion runs constable to head constable to assistant sub-inspector to sub-inspector.
Cut-offs vary by district. Recent trends out of 150: 115-130 in large cities, 105-120 in mid-sized districts and 90-110 in tribal or remote districts. Candidates who score 45+ of 50 in the physical test are often selected on an average written score, which is why physical training gives the highest return on time invested.
Scoring 80 of 100 in the written paper is hard; scoring 45 of 50 in the physical test is achievable with regular training. Build towards 1600 m in five minutes in stages.
Most candidates lose marks to poor technique rather than weak arms. Correct stance and release angle add one to two metres.
It is the only section with a small, fixed syllabus.
