Exam Overview
Teacher recruitment in Maharashtra runs in two stages: the TAIT, which decides merit, and the Pavitra portal, which allocates schools online on the basis of TAIT marks and candidate preferences. Passing the TET is a separate, compulsory prerequisite.
Eligibility Criteria
Primary (classes 1-5): 12th with 50% plus D.Ed and TET Paper I. Upper primary (6-8): a degree with 50% plus B.Ed or D.Ed and TET Paper II. Secondary (9-12): a degree or postgraduate qualification with B.Ed in the relevant subject. TAIT is required for all.
Age Limit
18-38 (Open) and 18-43 (backward classes). There is no age limit for the TET itself.

Exam Pattern
TAIT: 200 questions of 200 marks in 120 minutes, split evenly between aptitude and intelligence, computer-based with no negative marking.
TET: Paper I (classes 1-5) or Paper II (classes 6-8), each 150 marks, requiring 60% to pass (55% for backward classes).
Syllabus
TAIT aptitude: mathematical ability, Marathi and English language, spatial ability and teaching aptitude. TAIT intelligence: reasoning, series, coding, figures and problem solving.
TET pedagogy: child development stages, learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky), inclusive education, continuous evaluation and the RTE Act 2009.
Salary & Posts
Primary and upper primary teachers sit at pay level S-13 (₹45,000-52,000 gross) and secondary teachers at S-15 (₹55,000-62,000).
Cut Off
Selection on the Pavitra portal follows TAIT marks. Typical ranges out of 200: 130-155 (Open), 120-145 (OBC), 110-135 (SC) and 100-125 (ST), running higher for schools in sought-after districts.
How to Prepare
1. TET first, then TAIT
Without TET, TAIT marks cannot produce an appointment. TET needs 60% and is not competitive - clear it first.
2. TAIT has no negative marking
Attempt all 200 questions.
3. Pedagogy is the core
Child psychology, learning theories and the RTE Act appear in both exams.
4. Fill Pavitra preferences carefully
Allocations cannot be changed afterwards.

Frequently asked questions about Teacher Recruitment & TAIT Exam
TET is a qualifying exam - you cannot become a teacher without it, but its marks do not decide selection. TAIT decides merit, and the Pavitra portal allocates schools on TAIT marks. Both are needed.
Following a revised NCTE decision, the TET certificate is valid for life. It was previously seven years.
TET is a qualifying test — you cannot teach without it, but passing it is not a job. TAIT is the ranking test, and selection on the Pavitra portal is made on those marks. The order is: clear TET, score in TAIT, then set preferences on Pavitra.
Primary: Class 12 plus D.El.Ed. Secondary: a degree plus B.Ed. Both require the TET for the corresponding level.
Pedagogy, child psychology and aptitude carry the most weight. Many candidates spend their time on general knowledge and arithmetic and leave these for last; the mark distribution says the opposite.
